Comprehensive Case Packing Solutions for Stand-Up Pouches

Tear-off display boxes are becoming more and more popular for stand-up pouches (doypacks). This packaging format requires pouches to be packed standing up in a box. The box has a die-cut line around its body, which enables it to be separated into upper and lower parts. Discard the upper part and keep the lower part together with the pouches as a display. The box can be RSC, lock-bottom or wrap-around type. Calmus Machinery is one of the few manufacturers in China that can provide comprehensive case packing solutions for stand-up pouches.

RSC Boxes

RSC boxes are an efficient packaging option for stand-up pouches because they can contain multiple rows of pouches. It is more organized and safer to pack pouches standing up with cardboard dividers between rows. We have both split and monoblock case packers as options.

Lock-Bottom Boxes

Currently, the two typical types of lock-bottom boxes are auto-lock and snap-lock. Many manufacturers start with auto-lock bottom boxes for their pouch packaging because they are easily formed manually. To upgrade to automation, we suggest switching to wrap-around boxes because they are much stronger and can protect your pouch products better. However, we can provide case packers that handle both auto-lock and snap-lock bottom boxes if you do not want to change your existing boxes.

Wrap-Around Boxes

Currently more and more companies choose or switch to using wrap-around boxes to pack their pouch products due to their superior structural strength and lower material costs. Besides, wrap-around case packers are optimal for high speed. Our wrap-around case packer can handle up to 15 boxes per minute. The machine can pack infeed pouches from two standard Gualapak filling machines by combining two of our pouch collating lines, provided that one box contains 12 or more pouches.

Pouch Collator

Pouch collating is necessary before case packing. A collator organizes pouches into layers one at a time, stacks them with interlayer partition boards if more than one row in a case is required, and delivers them to the loading funnel, where the pouches are inserted into the formed case. Collators are a specialty product of Calmus Machinery. They are widely used with our packaging machines for instant ramen packets, sanitary pads, and diapers.

Pouch Unscrambler

Before entering the collating stage, all stand-up pouches must be on the conveyor one after another, with their heads all facing the same direction. But what if they come out of the upstream equipment in a disorganized manner? Calmus Machinery provides pouch unscramblers (also called pouch sorters by some) that can unscramble disorganized pouches and convey them one after another. Through visual recognition and rotation, they can then orient all stand-up pouches with their heads facing the same direction, and even flip them to ensure the same side of all pouches faces up.

Tray Packer and Case Packer for Instant Ramen Noodles

Two instant ramen noodle packaging lines were shipped to the US from our plant in China. One is a tray packing line capable of packing 24 or 12 instant noodle pillow packs per tray, and the other is a case packing line for bundles of 6 pillow packs. Each line is equipped with a palletizer as well.

The tray packing line comprises three pillow collating lines for organizing pillow packs and one tray packer, packing 24 or 12 pillows into a tray.

The case packing line consists of a carton erector, a top-load cartoning machine and a carton sealer, packing 6 bundles (each containing 5 pillow packs) into a corrugated box.

Bag-in-Box Line for Bulk Packaging of Bread Rolls

A fully-automated bag-in-box line for the bulk packaging of bread rolls was installed overseas. The packaging line includes a carton erector, a poly bag inserter, two conveyor-based weigh fillers, a bag uncuffer and sealer, and a carton sealer.

The carton erector forms cartons into a rectangular box shape and seals the bottom with adhesive tape, creating a ready-to-use box.

The poly bag inserter lines pre-formed boxes with one poly bag each, ready for bulk packaging. The machine dispenses film from a roll into cartons, cuts and seals it into a bag, opens and cuffs the bag over the carton flaps, and blows air to expand the bag for a snug fit against the box's internal walls.

The weigh filler accurately portions and loads frozen bread rolls into the lined boxes via an inclined conveyor and a funnel.

This bag uncuffer and sealer is designed to heat-seal the bag tops inside the boxes. The machine uncuffs the bags from the carton top flaps, stretches the bag openings, applies a light vacuum to prevent ballooning, heat-seals the bags, and then flattens them within the box.

The carton sealer closes and then seals the box tops with adhesive tape.

Multi-Pack Packaging Solutions for Sanitary Napkins and Diapers

Calmus Machinery offers custom multi-pack packaging systems for sanitary napkins, pads, panty liners, incontinence pads, and diapers. The system includes a collator for organizing a preset quantity of products and a flow wrapper or bagging machine for packing them as final or inner packages. For wraps or bags used as inner packages, we also provide a form-load-seal monoblock case packer to carton them into shipping packages.

Flow Wrapper and Case Packer for Packaging Noodle Packets

Two flow wrapping and case packing lines for packaging instant noodle packets are ready to be shipped abroad. Each fully-automated packaging line consists of two instant noodle packet collators, a flow wrapper (bagging machine), a wrap collator, and a form-load-seal monoblock case packer (cartoning machine).

The collator stands the fed noodle packets upright, separates them into rows of 5 each, and conveys them to the flow wrapper.

The flow wrapper wraps the sequenced noodle packets from the bottom with film, seals the top opening, and cuts the flow into individual wraps, each containing 5 noodle packets. Completed wraps are transferred to the wrap collator.

The wrap collator organizes wraps into layers of 4 each, stacks them (2 layers), and then delivers them to the case packing station.

The case packer automates the processes of case forming, wrap loading, and case sealing.

Cartoner and Case Packer for Packaging Electricity Meters

A carton packaging line for smart electricity meters was installed and put into operation successfully in the Gulf region. The fully-automated packaging line consists of a collator, a cartoner, a case packer and a case palletizer.

The collator accurately feeds electricity meters into the case loading tracks.

The cartoner forms lock-bottom cartons, loads one electricity meter into each carton, and seals them, completing individual retail packages.

The retail packages are rotated to their sides before entering the master case packer.

The case packer forms RSC (Regular Slotted Container) cases, loads the packaged meters, and seals them to form master shipping packages.

Both the cartoner and the case packer are form-load-seal monoblock packaging machines.

Finally, the palletizer efficiently stacks all finished master packages onto pallets for shipment.
